My husband and I just started a sort of date night co-op with some other parent friends of ours. How it will hopefully work out is that we'll share turns watching each others kids so that we can go out on dates a couple times a month. Ryan and I realized a couple weeks ago that last year we had only gone out on a few dates, not acceptable! Over the last year and a half of living in Dresden, we have been collecting great ideas of all the wonderful kid free dates we wish we could go on, and now's our chance!
I organized a bunch of date ideas into three categories: 1. Stay at Home Activities 2. Out and About Activities 3. Let's Eat Out! And then I wrote them out on different colored pieces of paper. The idea is to decide which type of date we want to go on, and then randomly pick an idea out of the jar according to the color! Say we wanted to go do some fun activity in the city then grab a bite to eat. One of us could pick a pink flag and the other would pick a green flag out of the jar and viola! Our whole date is planned out and ready to go!
The best part of making the date night jar is sitting down with your partner and coming up with all your fun date ideas! You could do fun flags like I did or you could just write them on little pieces of folded paper, popsicle sticks, whatever you can think of! I used shish kebab skewers and folded stripes of paper in half around the skewer. With a glue stick I glued the paper together and then wrote my ideas on each one. Get creative with making your own date night jar!
Lastly, put your date night jar somewhere visible in your home. Have it there to serve as a reminder to all the fun things you have to look forward to with your partner! Also, keep adding to your date night jar! Since making the jar last week, I have already added three new ideas to it :-)
Enjoy making your own date night jar! And more importantly than that, enjoy your dates! If you try your hand at a date night jar, be sure to tell us about it! Happy Easter Weekend all!
